Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
DuraFlex Chimney Inspection in Atlanta: What to Know First
We’re an independent DuraFlex chimney inspection provider in Atlanta, and we’ll inspect any DuraFlex flue liner or venting system, write up what we find with camera photos, and give you a flat price before any repair work starts. A standard DuraFlex inspection takes about 60 to 90 minutes, and most Atlanta homeowners have their written report in hand the same day. Inspection pricing starts at $189 for a basic visual check and runs up to $499 when we’re running a full camera scan through the flue.
If you own a home in Atlanta with a DuraFlex liner and you haven’t had it looked at in the last few years, this page is for you. Call (678) 263-7908 and we’ll get you on the schedule. Nathan Corliss and the crew at Ashby Chimney Atlanta have been inspecting DuraFlex systems across Buckhead, Decatur, Grant Park, and the wider Atlanta area for years, and we’ll tell you exactly what’s going on inside your flue, in plain English, with the pictures to prove it.
How DuraFlex Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
- DuraFlex 316L corrugated liners can develop pinhole leaks at the seam welds. This is the most common DuraFlex-specific issue we find in Atlanta homes, especially on liners that vent gas appliances. The thin 316L alloy handles heat well but doesn’t love the acidic condensate that gas combustion produces. We spot these during camera inspection and repair them with a HeatShield resurfacing system, which seals the pinholes without requiring a full liner replacement.
- DuraFlex SW (smooth wall) liners can separate at the coupling bands. The smooth-wall series uses mechanical couplings between sections, and after years of heating and cooling cycles, those bands can loosen. In older Atlanta houses where chimneys run through unheated attics, the thermal movement is worse. We re-secure the couplings with OEM-spec bands and verify the connection points with a camera before calling the job done.
- DuraFlex Pro liners can develop a “telegraphing” effect in the corrugations. This one’s specific to the Pro series. The corrugated profile can show stress lines where the liner flexes to fit an offset flue. It’s not always a failure, but it’s a sign the liner was installed under tension. We see it often in Atlanta’s older chimneys where the clay tile wasn’t perfectly straight to begin with. If the stress lines are cosmetic, we document them. If they’ve cracked through, we address it.
- DuraFlex AL (aluminum) liners corrode fast in Atlanta’s humidity. Aluminum liners are only rated for certain gas appliances, but plenty of Atlanta homes have them installed anyway. Atlanta’s summer humidity accelerates corrosion at the top plate and rain cap connections. We check these routinely during inspections and recommend a 316L stainless upgrade when the aluminum is past saving.
- DuraFlex rain caps and top plates can loosen over time, especially in storm season. Atlanta gets real wind. The top plate holds the liner in place, and when it loosens, the liner can shift and the cap can bang around in a storm. We’ve seen liners pull down six inches because a top plate wasn’t re-secured after a rough spring. Our fix is straightforward: re-anchor the plate, re-secure the cap, and make sure the liner is seated properly.
One thing that surprises Atlanta homeowners: most of these issues are repairable without yanking out the whole liner. A camera inspection is what separates a $400 repair from an $8,000 replacement, and that’s exactly why we always look before we recommend.
Styles & brands we work with

Our DuraFlex Chimney Inspection Process
- 1
You call and talk to a person. A live person answers at (678) 263-7908, any hour. You tell us what you have, what you’re seeing, and we book a time window that actually works for you.
- 2
We show up and look before we touch. Our technician arrives in uniform, introduces themselves, and walks the chimney from the ground up before setting up any equipment. Nathan Corliss is known for doing the inspection before he touches a brush, and the whole crew works that way.
- 3
Camera scan through the full flue. We run a camera from the top down and the bottom up, checking every foot of the DuraFlex liner, all connections, the top plate, and the appliance venting. You can watch the screen with us if you want to see what we see.
- 4
Parts decision, explained plainly. If something needs fixing, we tell you whether OEM DuraFlex parts or a quality aftermarket equivalent makes sense for your system. We don’t push parts you don’t need, and we’ll tell you when a repair can safely wait.
- 5
Written price before any work starts. No surprises at the door. The number we quote is the number on the invoice. You decide what gets done and what doesn’t.
- 6
We test, clean up, and hand you the guarantee in writing. After any repair, we verify it’s working correctly, sweep up the work area so it’s cleaner than we found it, and give you a written guarantee covering the repair. If it fails inside the guarantee period, we come back at no charge. That’s the 365-Day Done Right Promise.

Why Atlanta Homeowners Call Ashby Chimney Atlanta for DuraFlex Work
We’re not DuraFlex’s authorized service arm. We’re an independent DuraFlex service provider, which means we work for you, not the manufacturer. And that matters when the question is whether a liner gets repaired or replaced. Our techs know DuraFlex systems well enough to give you an honest read, and we also carry HeatShield and Gelco products, so if a repair makes more sense than a replacement, we have options.
Since 2002, Ashby Chimney Atlanta has operated under the Kingswell Guarantee. Here’s what that means for you: a written price before any work starts, a written guarantee on every repair, and a free second visit if the repair fails inside the guarantee period. That’s the Kingswell Way: say the price, show up in the window, leave it cleaner, put the guarantee in writing, come back if it fails. Our phones are answered by a live person 24/7, so you never get a voicemail loop when your chimney is acting up. Nathan Corliss grew up in Los Angeles and learned the trade at LA Trade-Tech before chimneys brought him east. For the last several years, he and the crew have been the ones Atlanta homeowners call, from Buckhead bungalows to older places near Grant Park where the masonry hasn’t been touched since the Carter administration.
Frequently Asked Questions
No, we’re an independent DuraFlex service provider, not a manufacturer-authorized dealer. That’s actually good for you, because we have no incentive to push a full liner replacement when a less expensive repair will do the job.
We recommend a camera inspection every two years for DuraFlex liners venting gas appliances, and every year if you burn wood. Atlanta’s heat, humidity, and storm seasons put real stress on flue liners, and catching seam weld corrosion early saves thousands.
Most problems we find during Atlanta inspections are repairable. Pinholes, loose couplings, and minor top plate issues don’t require a full liner swap. We’ll show you the camera footage and tell you straight whether a repair is smart or a waste of money.
We typically schedule inspections within a few days of your call, and the inspection itself takes 60 to 90 minutes. If you’re a homeowner in Atlanta dealing with a specific concern, call (678) 263-7908 and we’ll get you on the books.
Yes. Every DuraFlex inspection includes a written report with camera photos and a plain-language summary of what we found, what needs attention now, and what can wait. You’ll have the report the same day.
If you own a DuraFlex chimney system in Atlanta and want a straight answer about what’s going on inside your flue, call (678) 263-7908 for a free estimate. Nathan Corliss puts the price in writing before any work starts, and the guarantee in writing before anyone leaves. Tell us the price first, then tell us why. That’s the only way we know how to do it.
