Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
Gelco Chimney Inspection in Atlanta: What to Know First
We inspect Gelco chimney systems throughout Atlanta, and most inspections take 60 to 90 minutes from setup to cleanup. A standard Gelco inspection with camera work runs $189 to $289 depending on what you need, and we hand you a written price before we touch anything. If you own a Gelco liner, cap, or chase cover and want to know exactly what shape it’s in, call (678) 263-7908 and we’ll schedule a time that works.
This page is for Atlanta homeowners with Gelco products who want an inspection that actually tells them something. We’re an independent Gelco service provider, not a manufacturer shop, which means we call it like we see it. Nathan Corliss and our crew have worked on enough Gelco installations in this city to know where they hold up and where they don’t.
How Gelco Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
- Gelco stainless steel liners with seam separation at the mid-flue joint. We see this constantly in Atlanta homes with oversized fireboxes that run hot and fast. The thermal cycling in our humid summers followed by cold winter burns puts repeated stress on the seam welds. When a seam opens, combustion gases bypass the liner and sit against the masonry. Our fix is a camera-verified assessment first, then a decision on whether the seam can be re-secured or whether the liner section needs replacement with equivalent-grade steel, not whatever is on sale.
- Gelco chase covers with pinhole rust-through at the screw points. Atlanta’s wet season runs long, and water sits on the top of chase pans for weeks. The factory screws holding Gelco covers in place are a known entry point for corrosion because the pre-drilled holes break the galvanized coating. Once water gets in, it drips onto the liner and into the firebox below. We replace with a properly pitched cover and seal the fastener points the way the original install should have been done.
- Gelco multi-flue caps with pest entry through the side mesh. Squirrels and birds in Atlanta don’t care what brand your cap is. What matters is that Gelco’s older mesh pattern has openings wide enough for a determined squirrel to pull through. We’ve pulled nests out of Gelco caps in Buckhead, Decatur, and out toward Sandy Springs. The inspection always includes checking mesh integrity, and when it’s compromised, we install a heavier-gauge replacement that keeps the animals out while maintaining the same draft characteristics.
- Gelco direct-vent termination caps that clog with Atlanta pollen and creosote glaze. This one surprises people. Our spring pollen is thick, and when it mixes with the sticky creosote byproduct from gas logs, it forms a paste that narrows the vent opening. Gelco direct-vent terminations run on the efficient side, which means they have less margin for obstruction before draft becomes sluggish. We see this most often in houses near the Chattahoochee corridor and in older neighborhoods with mature trees. The fix is a removal, solvent clean, and re-set, plus a conversation about burn habits.
- Gelco locking bands that seize on stainless liners. A good stainless liner should last decades, but the locking bands at the top and bottom can seize shut from thermal expansion and oxidation. When a band seizes, it’s a warning sign that the liner hasn’t been inspected in years. Forcing a seized band can crack the liner section, so we don’t. We’ll note it in the inspection report, and if the liner needs work later, we cut the band carefully and replace it with an equivalent part, not a hardware-store clamp that doesn’t handle the heat.

Our Gelco Chimney Inspection Process
- 1
Call and schedule. You talk to a live person, day or night. We set a real arrival window and give you the name of the tech who’s coming.
- 2
Walk-through and written price. The tech arrives, looks at the Gelco setup, confirms the scope with you, and writes the price down before any tools come out. That number doesn’t change unless we find something new and you approve the additional work in writing.
- 3
External inspection first. We check the cap, chase cover, crown, flashing, and brick condition from the roof. Gelco components get a close look at fastener points, mesh, and seam integrity.
- 4
Internal inspection with camera. We run the camera from the firebox up through the Gelco liner, looking for seam gaps, creosote loading, water damage, and anything blocking the flue. You see the footage.
- 5
Findings and the decision. We walk you through what we found in plain English, with the camera footage pulled up. If a part needs replacing, we give you OEM versus quality aftermarket options and our honest recommendation on which is worth your money.
- 6
Cleanup and the written guarantee. We leave the job site cleaner than we found it, and any repair work we do carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If the covered repair fails inside the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge.

AfterWhat Gelco Chimney Inspection Costs in Atlanta
Most Gelco chimney inspections in Atlanta fall in these ranges, and we quote a fixed price before the work starts so the number on the invoice matches the number we gave you at the door.
- Level 1 inspection (visual, no camera): $139 – $189
- Level 2 inspection with full camera scan: $229 – $289
- Level 3 inspection (after a chimney fire or structural concern): $400 – $900 depending on access and what needs to be opened up
- Flue inspection with creosote assessment only: $119 – $159
What moves the price is access: a steep roof, a tall chase, or a liner that requires scaffolding instead of a simple ladder setup costs more because it takes longer and needs more equipment. The Gelco brand doesn’t change the inspection price. Call (678) 263-7908 for an exact quote on your setup. Estimates are free.
Why Atlanta Homeowners Call Ashby Chimney Atlanta for Gelco Work
We’ve been inspecting and repairing chimneys in Atlanta since 2002, and Gelco products have been a regular part of that work the whole time. We know where they fail, how they age, and what’s worth fixing versus replacing. When the repair calls for a different material than Gelco, we’re honest about it and we carry quality alternatives from DuraFlex and HeatShield in the van, so you’re not waiting on a second trip. Every job gets a written price up front and a written guarantee on completion. If a repair fails inside the guarantee window, we come back and make it right at no charge. That’s the Kingswell Way, and we put it in writing because that’s how it should work.
FAQs
We’re an independent Gelco service provider, not a manufacturer-authorized shop, so we don’t submit warranty claims on your behalf. What we do is inspect the product, tell you whether the defect looks like a manufacturer issue or normal wear, and give you documentation and photos you can use to pursue a warranty claim directly with Gelco. If the claim is approved and you need installation work, we handle the labor side.
Most inspections are scheduled within three to five business days, and the inspection itself takes 60 to 90 minutes. We don’t promise same-day service because we book real appointments with real arrival windows and we don’t overbook our techs. If you’re in a time crunch for a real estate closing, tell us when you call and we’ll do what we can.
If you’ve owned the home more than a year and no one has put a camera up the flue, get the Level 2. Gelco liners fail in ways you can’t see from the firebox with a flashlight. The camera shows seam gaps, hidden creosote, and water damage that a visual inspection misses. It’s the difference between catching a seam separation early and discovering it after smoke backs up into the house.
We show you the camera footage and explain exactly what’s failing before we recommend anything. Then we give you options: patch if it’s repairable, full replacement if it’s not. We carry DuraFlex and HeatShield liner systems as alternatives, and we’ll quote the repair honestly. You decide. Nothing gets replaced without you seeing the evidence and approving the written price.
Once a year if you burn regularly through the winter. Atlanta’s humidity and pollen load means creosote builds differently here than in drier climates, and our chimney fire risk runs higher in January and February when everyone’s fireplace is working hard. If you rarely use the fireplace, every two years is reasonable, but get a camera inspection before you light the first fire of the season.
Call (678) 263-7908 to schedule your Gelco chimney inspection in Atlanta. We’ll give you a written price before any work starts, and the estimate is free.
