Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
Copperfield Flue Liner Replacement: The Atlanta Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Copperfield-compatible flue liner replacements across Atlanta, with most full relining jobs running between $2,800 and $5,400 depending on the liner length, diameter, and the condition of your existing chimney. We carry Copperfield’s stainless and aluminum liner components on the truck for most common sizes, so a straightforward swap is usually a one-visit job. Most Atlanta homeowners discover they need a replacement after a Level 2 inspection flags a cracked tile liner, or when the annual sweep pulls out pieces of deteriorated clay that used to be the flue wall itself.
Which Copperfield Models This Applies To
Copperfield makes two main liner families that come through our Atlanta service calls. The stainless steel liners are typically what’s spec’d for wood-burning fireplaces and stoves, while the aluminum liners are intended for gas appliances and lower-temperature exhaust. Within those families, the compatibility gotcha most owners run into is diameter. We measure the existing flue’s interior dimension before anything gets ordered, because a liner that’s undersized by an inch quietly chokes draft, and one that’s oversized won’t seat properly against the appliance collar.
If you’re unsure what you have, look for the manufacturer’s tag on the liner itself, often visible from inside the firebox or at the top termination cap. If the tag’s gone or unreadable, the diameter measurement is the deciding factor. We use Copperfield OEM components when the liner is matched to a Copperfield appliance, but for older chimneys where the manufacturer’s original spec no longer matters, we’ll install a quality equivalent from DuraFlex or HeatShield. The decision comes down to what seals better against your specific flue shape and appliance connection.

Signs Your Copperfield Flue Liner Replacement Is Failing
- Flakes and chips at the bottom of the firebox. Clay tile liners break down over time from thermal cycling, and the evidence shows up as pieces of clay or grit you can pick up with your fingers. That’s the liner wall eroding from the inside out.
- Water stains or dampness on interior walls near the chimney. A cracked or separated liner lets condensation and rain migrate through the masonry, and the staining doesn’t always show up next to the fireplace, it can appear on a bedroom wall two floors up.
- A smell like wet campfire even when the fireplace hasn’t been used. Creosote and soot absorbed into porous masonry will off-gas that odor for years unless the liner is corrected.
- Downdraft or smoke rolling back into the room. A degraded or partially collapsed liner reduces the draft enough that smoke searches for the path of least resistance, which is your living room.
- White staining (efflorescence) on the exterior chimney brick. This means moisture is moving through the masonry, which in Atlanta’s humid climate accelerates liner and mortar deterioration faster than in drier regions.

That price includes the liner material, connectors, top plate, rain cap, old liner removal where needed, and full cleanup. We protect the work under the 365-Day Done Right Promise, which means if the repair fails inside the guarantee period, we return and correct it at no charge. That promise is in writing, on every job, not sold as an add-on.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely do one thing before calling us: take a flashlight and look up from inside the firebox. If you see cracks, gaps, or missing pieces of tile, that’s enough to tell you the liner has failed. What you shouldn’t do is attempt the replacement yourself. A flue liner carries hot combustion gases and creosote through the center of your home, and an improperly sealed liner lets those gases into wall cavities and living spaces. Carbon monoxide doesn’t announce itself. We’ve opened up chimneys in Buckhead and Grant Park where the previous liner was installed by someone who skipped the connector seal, and the result was creosote drip between the flue and the masonry.
This is the one repair where the cost of being wrong is measured in house fires and CO exposure, not just a drafty fireplace. If you’re in Atlanta and suspect your Copperfield liner is gone, call us at (678) 263-7908 and we’ll inspect it properly before anything gets quoted.
FAQs
A stainless Copperfield liner properly installed in an Atlanta chimney will typically last 15 to 25 years. We see shorter lifespans in homes near the Chattahoochee where humidity is higher year-round, and longer lifespans in well-maintained chimneys that get swept annually. For a precise answer on your liner’s remaining life, call (678) 263-7908 and we’ll inspect it.
Sometimes, yes. If the damage is isolated to a single cracked tile section and the rest of the flue is sound, we can install a partial stainless patch instead of a full reline, which drops the cost significantly. We’ll show you the camera footage so you can see exactly what we see before deciding.
Most single-story Copperfield liner replacements in Atlanta are done in 4 to 6 hours. Two-story chimneys or jobs requiring scaffold setup typically run a full day. We’ll give you a written arrival window and a written price before the crew shows up.
We keep common Copperfield stainless and aluminum liner diameters on the truck, along with our normal stock from DuraFlex and HeatShield for compatibility work. If your chimney needs an unusual size, we order it and you’ll know the timeline before we leave the first inspection.
