Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
DuraFlex Chimney Sweep in Atlanta: What to Know First
We’re an independent DuraFlex service provider in Atlanta, and we sweep and service DuraFlex chimney liners every week. A standard DuraFlex sweep with a Level 1 inspection typically runs $189 to $289 depending on liner height and creosote buildup, and most jobs are booked within 3 to 5 business days. You’ll get a written price before we touch anything.
This page is for Atlanta homeowners who have a DuraFlex liner installed, or are looking at one, and want straight answers about keeping it clean and functional. Our owner Nathan Corliss has been working flues for going on two decades, and our crew knows the difference between a DuraFlex liner that just needs sweeping and one that’s telling you something is wrong. If you have questions or want a quote, call us at (678) 263-7908. A live person answers, day or night.
How DuraFlex Products Fail — and How We Fix Them
DuraFlex makes solid liners. But in Atlanta, heat, humidity, and the way our homes are built create a few repeat issues. Here’s what we actually see on DuraFlex jobs in this city:
- DuraFlex 316L tee-body creosote bridging. The tee body at the bottom of the liner, where horizontal meets vertical, is where creosote collects first on DuraFlex 316L systems running wood-burning appliances. In Atlanta’s humid summers, that creosote absorbs moisture, swells, and narrows the passage. On a sweep we remove the tee cap, rod from both directions, and camera-check the junction before we call it clean.
- DuraFlex 304 liners and gas appliance acidity. DuraFlex 304, the alloy grade sold for gas appliances, is good metal but it will not laugh off acidic condensate forever. We’ve pulled 304 liners in Decatur and East Atlanta that looked fine from the top but had pinhole pitting midway down, where the liner passes through a cold attic. A sweep plus a camera inspection catches that before carbon monoxide finds its way into living space.
- DuraFlex Pro connection band loosening. DuraFlex Pro is a rigid, smooth-bore liner. The connection bands that join sections can loosen over years of thermal cycling, especially in masonry chimneys that run hot on winter nights and cold the next morning. A loose band lets creosote escape behind the liner. We check every band during a sweep and reseat or replace as needed, using proper connector hardware rather than whatever happens to be in the van.
- DuraFlex rain cap and spark arrestor clogging. The mesh on a DuraFlex rain cap will plug with creosote or lint, and squirrels in Atlanta treat a warm cap as a lounge. A plugged cap causes draft problems that no amount of sweeping fixes. We clean or replace the cap itself during the job.
- Improper insulation wrap on exterior installs. This is less a DuraFlex flaw and more an install flaw we see constantly around Grant Park and older intown neighborhoods: a liner wrapped in insulation on an exterior chimney, but with gaps at the joints. The liner cools unevenly, condensation forms, and creosote glazes hard instead of flaking. We identify it during the sweep and let you know whether it needs correcting.

Our DuraFlex Chimney Sweep Process
Every DuraFlex job in Atlanta follows the same order of operations. Here’s what happens from the first call:
- 1
We listen and then look. When you call (678) 263-7908, we ask what you’re burning, how often, and any recent changes in draft or smell. Then we schedule the visit.
- 2
We inspect before we sweep. Nathan Corliss and the crew camera the DuraFlex liner before a brush enters it. Sweeping first hides problems. We’d rather know what’s there.
- 3
We rod the full length with poly brushes, then re-camera. Poly brushes, not steel, on every DuraFlex liner. Steel can scratch the alloy and give creosote a place to grab.
- 4
We check connections, bands, and the tee body from both directions. This is the part a lot of Atlanta sweeps skip. DuraFlex components have specific failure points, and we check them in order.
- 5
We clean up and write it down. We leave the hearth cleaner than we found it, then hand you a written summary: what we found, what we did, and what we’d watch for before next season. Every repair gets a written guarantee.

AfterWhat DuraFlex Chimney Sweep Costs in Atlanta

A taller liner, heavy glazed creosote, or an older install that needs connector work pushes the price toward $325. If you’re also having a Level 2 camera inspection for a real estate sale or after a chimney fire, that adds $150 to $200 in most cases.

| Standard sweep + Level 1 inspection (single flue) | $189 – $289 |
| Sweep + Level 2 camera inspection | $339 – $489 |
| Heavy glazed creosote removal, multiple passes | $275 – $350 |
| Tee cap removal, connector band replacement, cap cleaning | $75 – $150 added to sweep |
| DuraFlex rain cap replacement | $125 – $225 installed |
The main variables are liner length, how long it’s been since the last sweep, and whether we’re fixing a component along the way. You’ll get an exact number in writing before we start. Call (678) 263-7908 for a free estimate. No surprises, no “changed conditions” fee at the door.
Why Atlanta Homeowners Call Ashby Chimney Atlanta for DuraFlex Work
We’ve been around since 2002, and the folks who call us have usually been burned once already. They had a sweep who never showed, or a repair that failed six weeks later with no way to reach anybody. We built our process to answer that directly.
Every DuraFlex job gets a written price before work starts and a written guarantee when it’s done. If a covered repair fails inside the guarantee period, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s the 365-Day Done Right Promise, and it’s part of the Kingswell Guarantee standard we operate under. Ashby carries ash right in the name. Fitting, for people whose job is to clean it out. We also service HeatShield and Gelco liners, so if your DuraFlex repair needs a different solution, we can tell you honestly what your alternatives are and what each one costs.
FAQs
Proper poly-brush sweeping does not void your DuraFlex warranty, and skipping sweeps does far more damage to a liner than cleaning it ever could. We use poly brushes, document the condition before and after with a camera, and provide that documentation if you ever need it for a warranty claim.
Common DuraFlex components, like tee caps, connection bands, and rain caps, are available through our Atlanta suppliers and often on the truck same day. Odd-size Pro sections or specialized terminations can take three to five business days. If a part is delayed, we tell you before you commit.
The camera tells the truth. We don’t recommend a liner replacement on a DuraFlex system until we can show you the image of corrosion, a separated seam, or structural damage. If the liner is sound, we’ll tell you it’s sound, and we won’t invent a problem to sell you a new one.
Burning wood in Atlanta, once per year is the minimum, and if you burn through a full winter every other month from November to March, twice is safer. Gas-only DuraFlex liners still should be inspected annually for pitting and connection issues, even if they rarely need sweeping. Call (678) 263-7908 and we’ll help you figure out a realistic schedule for your setup.
Creosote builds in the tee body and at any slight offset in the run, narrowing the liner and making draft worse. Left long enough, a chimney fire can crack the liner at the joints and you’re looking at a replacement instead of a sweep. The first sign is often a fireplace that won’t draw on cold nights. It’s cheaper to call now than after that. Set up an estimate at (678) 263-7908 and we’ll get you scheduled.
